1st Munich Literature Festival

Festival at Literaturhaus Munich, Muffathalle, Volkstheater, Haus der Kunst, Völkerkundemuseum, Kulturzentrum Gasteig

The main feature of the first Munich Literature Festival was an international conference of writers from Africa, Asia and Latin America – in particular representatives of “universal writing” whose work probes the conflicting relationship between socio-cultural rootedness and global orientation. Curator Ilija Trojanow, whose life and work have distinguished him as a transnational and cross-border thinker, has chosen to focus on the cosmo-political aspect, which, in times of accelerated globalization, offers a creative balance between the local and global spheres, and between the familiar and the foreign. This literature festival explored vital current issues from a literary and scientific perspective in numerous events.

Curator: Ilija Trojanow
Artists: Rafael Chirbes (ES), Umberto Eco (I), Peter Esterhazy (HU), Nuruddin Farah (GB), Ranjit Hoskot (IN), Gail Jones (AUS), Yang Lian (CN) and others
