Digitalising the WVHA prisoner catalogue
Scientific efforts to learn more about the concentration camp system of the Third Reich are often thwarted because of a lack of data. At several camps, the National Socialists themselves destroyed all the records, while at other locations, the data concerning the prisoners' backgrounds is incomplete. By digitalising 160,000 index cards stored at the SS Economic Administration Bureau headquarters (WVHA) in Warsaw and Berlin, this research project will create a databank, enabling concentration camp memorials to reconstruct many of their prisoners' biographies.
